When to Plant
- Outdoors: Sow seeds after the last frost in spring (soil temperature at least 55°F/13°C).
- Indoors: You can start seeds 2–4 weeks before the last frost, then transplant outdoors.
2. Where to Plant
- Location: Full sun (6–8 hours of sunlight daily) is best. They tolerate partial shade but may flower less.
- Soil: Well-draining soil. Poor to average soil actually encourages better flowering! (If the soil is too rich, you’ll get lots of leaves but few flowers.)
3. How to Sow Seeds
- Preparation: (Optional) Soak seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours before sowing to speed up germination.
- Planting Depth: ½ inch (1.25 cm) deep.
- Spacing:
- Bush types: 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) apart.
- Vining types: 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) apart, with support (trellis or fence).
4. Watering
- After Planting: Water well to settle the soil.
- During Growth:
- Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy.
- Once established, Nasturtiums are fairly drought-tolerant.
- Overwatering can cause root rot.
5. Germination
- Time: Seeds usually sprout in 7–14 days.
- Temperature: Ideal soil temperature is 55–65°F (13–18°C).
6. Care Tips
- Fertilizer: Not necessary. Avoid fertilizing — it leads to more leaves, fewer flowers.
- Support: Vining types appreciate a trellis, fence, or support structure.
- Deadheading: Not required but removing old flowers can extend blooming.
- Pests: Usually pest-resistant, but watch for aphids and caterpillars.
7. Harvesting
- Leaves, flowers, and seeds are all edible — peppery and fresh tasting!
- Harvest young leaves and flowers regularly for salads and garnish.
🌺 Quick Reminder:
Plant after frost.
Full sun.
Poor soil = more blooms.
No fertilizer.
Easy to grow = Happy gardener! 🌼

Sow outdoors as soon as soil can be worked in spring until 3 weeks before first fall frost. Preparation: Moisten a paper towel or coffee filter with water and gently squeeze out excess moisture. It should be damp but not soaking.
2. Placing the Seeds: Spread your dahlia seeds evenly on half of the damp paper towel, ensuring they’re spaced apart.
3. Folding and Sealing: Fold the towel over the seeds and place this inside the ziplock bag.
4. Sealing the Bag: Seal the bag most of the way, leaving a small opening for air exchange to create a controlled environment.
5. Creating Humidity: Place the bag in a warm spot (70-75°F / 21-24°C). The damp towel will maintain a humid environment for germination.
6. Monitoring and Misting: Check periodically to ensure the towel remains damp. If it dries, mist it lightly.
7. Germination: Once the seeds sprout, open the bag slightly for airflow to help the seedlings adjust.
8. Transplanting: After seedlings develop their first true leaves, carefully transplant them into individual pots or seedling trays with well-draining potting mix.
9. Check the seed packet and click “Read More” under the ETSY item listing for specific instructions and seed specifications.
2. Choose a proper sized container for your seeds. Most seeds should be started in containers such as seeding flats and pots up to 4- 6 inches to better control early growing conditions.
3. Fill containers with consistently moist (not soaked), well draining, and sterile soilless seed starting media. Heavy and poor draining soils can inhibit germination and reusing old soil can transfer organisms or plant diseases that can harm a seedling. We DO NOT recommend peat pods/discs or pots since they tend to wick moisture away from the media.
4. Create a small depression in your media and sow a few seeds at the depth recommended on the seed packet. A good guideline is that most seeds should be sown as deep as the seed is wide.
5. Lightly cover the seeds with media and water them in, make a note for the day of seeding.

*Keep the media consistently moist with a gentle spray or bottom-water containers to keep seeds at the same depth that it was sown. Place the pot/flat in an area that can maintain a temperature range close to the optimal germination temperature on the seed packet. Be careful not to overwater which can cause fungal growth, media compaction, and lead to rot.

*Germination time will vary depending on the environmental temperature. Starting seeds on a germination mat, or an environment indoors where temperature can be better maintained will speed up the germination process.

*Once germination occurs, place your container in a protected area with adequate filtered sunlight and thin each pot/cell to have only one seedling per hole. If you need to continue to grow your seedlings indoors due to outside temperatures being too cold and variable, we highly recommend using grow lights directly above seedlings to prevent leggy plants.

TRANSPLANTING/POTTING UP:

When seedlings have a second set of “true leaves” and have developed a root ball that stays intact when gently removing it from the container they are ready to be gently potted up or transplanted.

If potting up to a larger container, use a mix of potting soil, compost, and something like perlite to create space and good drainage. Plant the seedling at soil level in the new container and water well.

When transplanting into the garden you can add a little compost in the planting hole when transplanting, mixing in with the soil in your garden bed. Plant at soil level in the garden, unless planting tomatoes which can be buried deeply. Top mulch around your plants, keeping compost away from the stem in pots or in the garden with a 1 to 2 inch layer of compost and reapply throughout the growing season. Water deeply for the first 3 days and then when the plant is established, allow the soil to dry out in between watering - watering the soil rather than the leaves in the mornings.

FERTILIZER & AMMENDMENTS:

We fertilize and maintain our plants using organic methods: fish fertilizer, worm castings, compost, Kelp, and OMRI list organic granular fertilizer made of poultry manure.

SEED SAVING:

Some plants cross easily while others self pollinate before there is a chance of crossing so if you are interested in saving seeds, we recommend you do a quick search on each species. If saving seed for the next growing season and you would like your next season plants to grow true to type make sure that you are only growing one variety of the same species or isolate your plants through distance/timing/netting to control cross pollination.

HARVEST:
- Grow Cilantro greens as a “cut and come again” crop to yield several tasty harvests!
- Harvest mature seeds for use as culinary corriander.

50 Double Cranberry Coneflower Seeds - Echinacea Perennial Flower
Vibrant Blooms for Your Garden - Easy to Grow & Beautiful!

Transform your garden with the stunning beauty of Double Cranberry Coneflowers (Echinacea)! An improved, open-pollinated variety of dent corn developed in Dublin, Ontario, Canada for short growing seasons. It produces beautiful tall stalks that can reach 8-10' with 8-9" long ears. This amazing open-pollinated variety of dent corn was developed to provide modern farmers with an economical alternative to purchasing hybrid seed corn. Bred by longtime corn breeder Victor Kucyk and named after his hometown in Ontario, this short season dent corn is among several OP varieties that have pushed the limits of what is possible for open-pollinated corn. In USDA trials, Dublin produced yields as high as 127 bushels an acre... a giant leap compared to the commercially available OPs, most of which date back to the 1930s.

Besides its yield, Dublin is noted for its wide adaptability and drought tolerance. In a study conducted by the Agricultural Research Foundation and the Dry Farming Institute, Dublin was not only the highest yielding of the twelve varieties tested, but it also maintained that mantle under both irrigated and dry-farmed conditions, indicating a suitability to a wide variety of environments. With a high protein of 10-11%, this variety can be used for flour, cornmeal, and by distilleries. Soaking overnight or up to 24 hours helps to jump start the germination process for seeds with a hard seed coat while scarification involves gently scratching the seed coat to allow water to penetrate and hydrate the embryo.
* Some seeds like lettuce and certain flowers require light for germination. Please check the item listing for this information.
*Certain beans and peas have the ability to form a symbiotic relationship with Rhizobium bacteria to form root nodules that “fix” atmospheric nitrogen making it a great addition for your soil ecosystem. Seeds can be treated with a soil inoculant that contains the Rhizobium bacteria prior to planting to ensure that the beneficial bacteria is present. These inoculants can be purchased online or at some garden stores.

WHEN TO GROW:

- To figure out the best time to start your seeds first locate the "days to maturity" located in the item description or photo with Seed specifications in our Shop.
- Research your average first frost date(in the fall) and subtract the amount of days the seeds take to grow to maturity that you found listed on the packet.
If you still have adequate time before that first frost date and provide the ideal growing conditions you will likely have a chance at a successful harvest this season.
- To get a head start on your garden you can start seeds indoors 6- 8 weeks before your last frost date if providing the correct temperature, light, and properly sized containers.

STEPS TO GERMINATION:

1. Check the seed packet and this ETSY item listing for specific instructions and seed specifications.

“Harden off” the young plants by gradually extending their time in sunlight and the natural elements that they will experience when planted out, therefore they are less likely to go into shock. Once they have acclimated, transplant them out to the garden or a new container and water deeply for the first three days.

Plant at soil level in the garden, unless planting tomatoes which can be buried deeply which encourages root growth along the stem in the soil and more roots creates a stronger plant. .Top mulch around your plants, keeping compost away from the stem in pots or in the garden with a 1 to 2 inch layer of compost and reapply throughout the growing season.

HARVEST:
Luffas are in the cucurbit family and are edible at the young green stage. You can pick young tender Luffas( about 8 “ long or smaller) and use in recipes as a summer squash/ zucchini substitute.

Harvest for sponges/ bath scubbies:
Luffas are best known for their dry gourds that form a sponge like material. The best way to harvest is to wait until your Luffa are brown, light in weight, and dry on the vine. Squeeze the outside skin and remove it to reveal your new sponge!

If you live in a climate where your frost date is approaching and your Luffa haven’t dried out completely, harvest after your first hard fall frost and process them in whatever form they are in or they will rot on the vine.

One season we had to remove our Luffa early due to our trellis breaking in a hurricane. We picked them off the vines, and let them continue to mature off the vine before processing. Harvest was still a success!

SEED SAVING
Seeds are ready to harvest when Luffas are mature, brown, brittle, and light weight -you can shake your Luffa and hear the seeds rattling inside. When processing for sponges remember to keep a container underneath you to catch falling seeds. You can also tap your skin free Luffa against the container to loosen all the seeds.

10 Angled Luffa Seeds, Chinese Okra Seeds, Loofah Gourd Seeds, Organic Luffa acutangula seeds, Ridged Sponge Gourd Seeds, Seed The Stars

A cross of the Thunder Mountain Long Horn chili pepper and a Jalapeno pepper. Choose the Right Time:
- Outdoors: Sow calendula seeds directly in your garden seeds after the last frost in early spring. These heirloom seeds are ideal for creating companion planting setups in your butterfly garden.
- Indoors: For an early start, sow calendula seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date.
2. Select the Planting Location:
- Sunlight: Calendula flowers prefer full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in cold climate zones.
- Soil: Well-drained soil works best for calendula seeds, though they are tolerant of poor soils. Rich soil will yield more beautiful flowers for your medicinal herb garden.
3. Sowing the Seeds:
- Outdoor Sowing: Scatter the calendula seeds directly on the surface of the soil and cover lightly with 1/4 inch of soil or compost.
- Indoor Sowing: Fill seed trays with seed-starting mix and sow seeds 1/4 inch deep. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged for optimal growth of your heirloom seeds.
4. Watering:
- Keep the soil evenly moist during germination (7-14 days). Once established, Calendula flowers are drought-tolerant but benefit from regular watering to help bloom continuously.
5. Thinning the Seedlings:
- Thin seedlings to about 12 inches apart to ensure healthy growth in your wildflower seeds garden or border flowers arrangement.
6. Care and Maintenance:
- Deadheading: Regularly remove spent blooms to prolong the blooming period. This will also help your calendula flowers continue producing throughout the season.
- Fertilizing: Calendula doesn’t need much fertilization. A balanced fertilizer once a month can enhance growth, though these easy to grow seeds flourish naturally
7. Pest and Disease Management:
- While generally pest-resistant, Calendula flowers can occasionally attract aphids. Use natural insecticidal soap if necessary to protect your pollinator garden
8. Harvesting:
- Harvest your calendula flowers for culinary, medicinal, or ornamental use. These edible flowers are perfect for natural remedies, adding to herbal remedies, and enhancing the beauty of your healing garden.
9. Self-Seeding:
- Calendula flowers often self-seed, meaning they can return year after year, adding lasting beauty to your organic gardening space.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Our Calendula seeds are perfect for anyone looking to create a colorful, functional garden. Their bulbs are typically round or slightly flattened, with smooth, pale yellow to light brown skins, and their flesh is exceptionally sweet and mild, making them ideal for raw consumption in salads, salsas, or on sandwiches. Known for their low sulfur content, which contributes to their sweetness, Walla Walla onions are a long-season crop, requiring a full growing cycle to reach maturity. They are beloved by gardeners for their ability to grow in a variety of climates, though they flourish best in well-drained, fertile soil with ample sunlight.

About 100 seeds

Allium cepa
Long Day
Full Sun
Seed Depth: 1"
Plant Spacing: 4-6"
Maturity: 110 days

Onion bulbing is triggered by day length, and maximum day length during the growing season increases from south to north.
